Recuento - Vida en Chattahoochee Valley

He sido seleccionado para hacer una presentación especial sobre Viva la Gente para presentarla en la Organización de Naciones Unidas y lograr convertir a nuestra ONG en un programa hermanado con la ONU. Este es un gran honor. Somos dos equipos. Cada equipo debe entregar una propuesta de presentación al final de nuestro tiempo en Venice, Florida. Sandra de China y yo somos un equipo. Janet de Singapur y Bjorn de Los Países Bajos son el otro equipo. Por eso el día de ayer no fui a nuestro día de impacto comunitario. Todo el día estuvimos trabajando en el proyecto. Sandra, quien ha sido aceptada para hacer una maestría en Harvard, es una mujer brillante, es un honor trabajar con ella. Este proyecto será muy interesante.

El día de hoy tuvimos una actividad llamada “Toma partido con la Paz”. Esta actividad está basada en el concepto de la Cultura de Paz creada por la ONU. Lo que hacemos es ir a escuelas de educación primaria y secundaria para exponer a los y las estudiantes que con acciones pacíficas la resolución de conflictos es posible. Junto con Kelli, de los Estados Unidos, expusimos y facilitamos distintas actividades que el Staff de Educación de Viva la Gente nos enseñó durante nuestro tiempo en Denver. Los alumnos del salón en el que Kelli y yo presentamos “Toma partido con la Paz” nos recibieron muy bien y la actividad fue un éxito total.

Después de “Toma partido con la Paz” el cast presentó en una hermosa escuela sureña en la zona del Valle de Chattahoochee.

Terminamos el día cenando en la iglesia metodista en West Point que está fungiendo como apoyo para Viva la Gente. Convivimos con la comunidad y disfrutamos de una muy buena comilona.

Mañana tendremos de nuevo actividades con el programa de “Toma partido con la Paz”, en esta ocasión mi equipo para trabajar será Kelli de los Estados Unidos de nuevo, Leonardo de Brasil y Patrick de los Estados Unidos. ¡Me suena a que nos la pasaremos muy bien!

I had been selected to make a special presentation about Up with People. That presentation will be shown in the United Nations Organization to make UWP a UNO related project. This is a huge honor for me. We are two teams. Each team needs to present a Power Point slide show at the end of our week on Venice, Florida. Sandra from China and I are a team. The other team is formed by Janet from Singapore and Bjorn from The Netherlands. Because of this I didn’t go to the Community Impact activity yesterday. All the day we were working on the UNO project. Sandra, who had been accepted to do a master on Harvard, is a brilliant woman; it is such a joy to work with her. This project looks very interesting.

Today we had an activity called “Stand for Peace”. This activity is based on the concept of Culture of Peace created by UNO. What we do is to go to elementary and middle high schools and we teach the students that peaceful actions can solve conflicts. Kelli from the United States and I facilitated the components of “Stand for Peace” that we learned in our staging time in Denver. The students with the ones Kelli and I worked received the concepts very well and the activity was such a success.

After “Stand for Peace” the cast presented a small version of our show in a beautiful southern school in the Chattahoochee Valley zone.

We finished the day having dinner in the Methodist church of West Point which is providing support in the facilities’ aspects to Up with People. We share our time with the community and we enjoyed a real banquet.

Tomorrow we’ll have “Stand for peace” again and in this time I will work with Kelli from the United States again, Leonardo from Brazil and Patrick from the United States. It sounds like we will have a great time!
